Asa Ellerup has not seen her husband since his arrest in July
She filed for divorce soon after being detained
Heuermann is accused in the deaths of three women found along Gilgo Beach
Asa Allerup meets her husband, Gilgo Beach serial killing suspect Rex Heuerman, in prison for the first time after his arrest.
Ellerup’s attorney confirmed to NewsNation that the pair spent an hour together in jail and said it was the first time they had seen each other before Heuerman was taken into custody.
Allerup filed for divorce from Heuerman shortly after he was arrested in July. Heuerman is being held in the Suffolk County Jail after pleading not guilty to three counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman and Amber Costello. He is also a suspect in the murder of Maureen Brainard-Barnes but has not been charged in her death.
All four women were sex workers, whose remains were among those of 11 victims found near Gilgo Beach in 2010 and 2011. Most of the victims were sex workers, but it is unclear whether Heuermann’s could be linked to some of the other deaths or if they were separate crimes.
Investigators used DNA to identify Heuerman as a suspect and took him into custody, after a search removed a large number of items from the architect’s Long Island home.
Allerup and Heuermann’s adult children have stated that they knew nothing of Heuermann’s alleged crimes and were innocent bystanders in the case.
A production crew was also seen at Heuerman’s home, setting up lights and cameras. It is unclear what was being filmed at the home.
